Flora Europaea the original Linnean specimen is missing from the Linnean collection Megaphanerophyte, 2n=46, diploid mesic to mesohygrophyle, present in the whole nemoral belt, usually a riparian or a shaded steep slope mountainous species, on rocky substratum western Palearctic Alnion glutinosae, Querco-Fagetea, Tilio-Acerion (especially Moehringio muscosae -Acerenion), Alno-Fraxinetalia R44, R41 habitats     One of the most characteristic nemoral species of humid soils.
